Is the McCain campaign winding down?

Republican Presidential Candidate Senator John McCainThe New York Times reports that Presidential candidate John McCain's top two campaign leaders resigned in unison today.

Yesterday we noted that Ron Paul now has more campaign money than Senator McCain (and certainly momentum in a different direction).

These facts, and the the Senator's poll numbers in Iowa, lead us to believe that the McCain campaign might be winding down. That's quite a rapid descent for the front-runner of just a few months ago.

If the front-runner can tank that quickly, might some of the other long-shot candidates (Duncan Hunter, Jim Gilmore, Mike Huckabee, Sam Brownback, Tom Tancredo, Tommy Thomson - but never Ron Paul!) be next?

Aaron,

I think Romney is next. He's falling quickly on intrade (down to 17% chance for the nomination) and all his Iowa support is bought. If he hadn't loaned himself $9 million his campaign would only have $3 million on hand now, and he's burning through cash like crazy.

And what does he stand for? What are his positions? No one knows. As with Giuliani and Thompson, there's no there there. Such soft support can fall rapidly.

RP is going to win this.

"Anonymous," a lot of what you say is accurate, but Ron Paul will not be the party's nominee for president . . . at least not the Republican Party.

Anonymous,

As you are a follower of the predictive market at InTrade, does that mean you've purchased shares for Ron Paul's nomination? (Putting your money where your mouth is, as they say).

Barack Obama may be against the war, but at the same time, he supports creating a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants as do most 2008 Presidential Candidates. Is that fair? Is that safe? Is that good for the economy? Apart from Mitt Romney almost all candidates are supporting creating a path for citizenship for illegal immigrants. My question is what happens to the legal foreigners here on different visas? They are applying for a green card and have to wait 8-10 years before they get it while they could quite simply cross the border and cross back illegally and get citizenship if this bill is passed. Are these politicians crazy? What’s wrong with the 2008 Presidential Candidates? Can’t they hear the voice of the people any more? I looked and researched and did a 2008 Presidential Candidates comparison and to tell you the truth, I don’t know who to vote for. While Barack Obama is the most charismatic, Hillary Clinton seems to be the stronger of the two. Then there are the Republicans who have simply lost my faith after Bush. So in the end, we are stuck. No matter what happens, the American public is going to be in trouble one way or another.
