Stephen Colbert on the California Electoral Vote reform proposal

Last night the Colbert Report aired a segment on the proposed referendum in California to allocated presidential electors by Congressional District, rather than the current statewide, winner-take-all system. If the plan passes next year, the Republican presidential candidate would likely receive an additional 20-25 electoral votes - the equivalent of winning Ohio.

Is Vice President Dick Cheney the Fourth Branch of Government?

Branches of Government

Branches of Government:
1. Executive
2. Legislative
3. Judicial
4. Vice President Dick Cheney?

As you've probably heard by now, Vice President Dick Cheney claimed late last week that Executive Branch National Archives disclosure laws didn't apply to him because, as President of the Senate, he is not a member of the Executive Branch. (He of course has consistently claimed in the past that he is also protected from other disclosure laws as a member of the Executive Branch).

Setting aside the legal analysis for a while (is there really any legitimate legal analysis to be had here?), let's instead focus on the reactions of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Daily Show video coverage of Dick Cheney's claim he is not part of the Executive Branch:

New Senate candidate in Minnesota?

Nobel Laureate Peter Agre is exploring running for the U.S. Senate as a DFLer next year.

Joe at MNCR interviewed Dr. Agre yesterday. However, unmentioned by Joe is Dr. Agre's appearance on the Colbert Report.

Here's the video (Part One):

Part Two:

Also yesterday, a national blog claimed the DFL has done a poor job recruiting a candidate against Norm Coleman. In the current landscape, Peter Agre's candidacy might be looking rather attractive.

The Colbert Report discusses the newest Barack Obama scandal: he can't remember the name of a magazine he read over 30 years ago. And because of this lapse, Stephen Colbert doesn't want us to trust Obama with national security.

Stephen Colbert: Republican Presidential debate wasn't pro-torture enough

The Colbert Report loved the second GOP presidential candidate debate, but really thinks the debate should have been more pro-torture.

The U.S. Attorney firing controversy is done...So says Stephen Colbert

The Colbert Report declares the U.S. Attorney investigation complete now that the "Evil Paul McNulty" has resigned.

If Stephen Colbert declares a Congressional investigation over, it must be true. (Or at least truthy).
